I try to find out what my student's goals are and try to arrange lesson plans that will work steadily towards their goals. I try to give them knowledge about interesting facts and tips each week of something that they may not consider. For younger students I try to show them how to practice so that they can prepare themselves appropriately each week. Also I encourage students to use a metronome.I try to emphasize becoming adept at note reading. Read More

Lessons are positive and laid back. An atmosphere is created to be able to ask any question. Lessons are comprehensive, meaning that they both play to the student's strengths while addressing any weaknesses or information that is typically skipped over in public school simply due to lack of time and having the students on an individual basis. Lessons are not just theory oriented, but more performing oriented. There is always a solo to play or duet to sight read. Read More

Nothing is more important than meeting my students where they are at. While I use the same method books, I understand that progress looks different for each student. Learning piano should not only be rewarding, it should also be fun! In each lesson, I try to maintain an environment of learning while also using a variety of games, activities, and exercises around the concept of the day. I expect consistent practice from all of my students - there's no progress without it - but how that practice looks varies from student to student and their own music goals. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

My approach to teaching anyone music is to present it as a unique language, one that anyone in the world can use to communicate with anyone. Therefore, my initial emphasis for each student is to help them master the flute in terms of technique and tone so that they can then concentrate on the style of music that they love. Lesson plans are very detailed and great emphasis is placed on problem solving and working out ways to improve while the student still juggles a busy schedule. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Fiddle
I began teaching beginner piano when I was in middle school and caught the teaching bug! (My dad was a high school choir teacher for thirty-five years, so I must have caught it from him.) Now I teach violin/fiddle, voice and piano. I believe that learning classical music and sight reading are both fundamentals to begin learning any instrument. However, I love to teach other styles as well! I would love to work with budding musical theater performers who want to work on musicianship skills and/or learn piano/violin. Read More
