I try to cater my lessons to the interest of my students. If a pupil’s passion for music can be harnessed, then developing musical skills can be a simple process. I have a wide variety of material I teach from, including Ted Reed’s syncopation, George Lawrence Stone’s Stick Control for the Snare Drummer and basic piano literature. I also use music selected by the student to create custom lessons. Read More

My teaching style is laid back with the full intention of moving forward in both technique and enjoyment. Each Lesson is geared toward the Goals we agree on as Student and Teacher. Depending on age and experience, I set goals at 3 months or 6 months. It is crucial to allow the student to learn at his or her own rate. Again, I strive to find the Creativity in the Student and to see how that can be developed as quickly as possible, especially if they are interested in songwriting, singing, composition, or simply doing their "own thing". Just as every player has their own musical personality and voice, so too does every lesson that Nicholas gives. In a supportive, patient environment, every lesson is custom tailored to the student. Being musical is inherent to being human, so when a students’ musical abilities fail to progress, it is the teaching method that has failed, not the student. While my educational background allows me to offer my students a high level of instruction in instrumental technique, my first priority with every student is to foster their love and understanding of music through playing their instrument. To me it is very important to balance the technical and creative aspects of development. No matter what age/skill level I split time during lessons into activities that develop technique and language, and compositional, creative activities that help each student explore their instrument and what they have to say with it. This balance can be altered depending on the interests of the student or parent. I also encourage students to bring in songs that they want to learn/play along with to keep the lessons relevant to their musical interests. Read More

I'm a passionate and focused instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2020, I graduated from Catholic Distance University with an associate's degree in liberal arts. In 2022, I obtained my bachelor's degree with a double major in history and English. Right now, I am working towards an associate's degree in philosophy from Franciscan University. Even though I have a great love for the liberal arts, I also have a great love for music as well. I find the Hal Leonard Series works as a tool for helping students understand musical concepts right away. For students who are more advanced I will plan their lessons based on what their goals are. Every student is different: Some want to compete in recitals, some want to play for their friends and family when they come over, some want to compose their own musical pieces, some people just wanna jam! "To be inspired is great, TO INSPIRE is incredible." I love to inspire children and it gives me a great pleasure when they improve and do well. I started playing piano at a young age. My teacher was a very good pianist but a poor educator. Five years later I found a new, wonderful teacher who inspired me to learn. I am grateful for her and her passion and I hope to give that knowledge to my students. Read More
