A student will be motivated to learn and practice if they like their teacher. Also, they will be eager to share their own ideas and interpretations of the music. I like to use various method books since I believe every single one of them provide different pedagogical aspects. Depending on the style, genre that the student wants to learn, I make sure they have enough resources to practice themselves in their own home. For children, I try to keep it as light and fun so they won't burnout over the long journey of learning music. For teenagers and young adults I like to show the possibilities of the instrument and where they can be with persistence and for adults I'd like to guide and help them to find what they like the most and enjoy learning and playing. In those institutes I taught applied music, theories and solfege. In 2011 I came to U.S. and I started teaching at Faith Lutheran Academy of Music, and I also gave private lessons at students' homes. I have found from my experience from Baghdad, Lebanon, and now U.S. that so many methods and approaches can be used in music. For instance, a student might not show any interest in classical music but with certain way of teaching that music and choosing the right piece for the right person, I might change the feeling the student has. For the beginning students who are children, I teach about 30 mins(theory 5-7mins) - 45 mins (theory 10mins), I focus on the fundamental skills of playing the piano and also the foundation of music theory. For the intermediate and advanced levels, I teach about 60 mins (theory ten mins, if required), mostly I listen what students prepared and give comments and advise how to practice and show my playing, so students can see how they can improve their skill efficiently and rapidly.
