I'm currently a second year student at the University of Delaware where I study physics, music composition, and piano performance. Although I'm a classically trained musician I am constantly looking expand my musical vernacular, and some of my favorite genres include swing, flamenco, classic rock, bluegrass, and Irish folk music among others. If a student comes in as a beginner, I will teach them the notes first, then reading on the staff and chords. I try to encourage everyone to learn how to read music, but certain students prefer to learn pieces quicker, in which case I can speed up the process by telling them the notes to play. I constantly ask the students for the piece that they want to play themselves and I encourage them to try them even if they feel like it appears too difficult. Read More

I try to encourage the students to practice without being told to do so. With that comes a joy of doing it on your own and for themselves not for anyone else.
