Instruments: Piano
I encourage students to pick the music they want to play. For those who have no prior music knowledge at all, there are numerous beginning methods that are satisfactory. I teach harmony and ear training at a level in agreement with ability of the fingers to execute. It is so nice to learn to play by ear, (starting with very simple tunes) going from the brain to the keyboard without the crutch of the paper score. Of course this is the objective of preparation (study, practice) anyway, so the emotional feeling that the composer intended can be experienced and interpreted (and communicated to the audience) in a wonderful, magical way. Student-teacher relationship is one of the most important aspects to my teaching style. It is very important that students feel safe and welcome in their learning environment, so I keep lessons relaxed yet on target with our goals. I believe that every student learns at his own pace, and I try to gauge that with realistic goals per lesson, per semester, and per year. I like to vary activities in lessons according to my student's preference. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Accordion
I typically start woodwind students with the Standard of Excellence Comprehensive Band Method series. I like to use the Faber Piano Adventures Series or the Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course for piano instruction. In addition to the method book, I like to incorporate physical/breathing exercises, supplemental warm-ups, sight-reading, music theory worksheets, and student selected repertoire in lessons. I also encourage students to create their own compositions. In the past, I have digitally recorded many of my students' compositions and have really enjoyed encouraging students to express themselves through original composition. Read More
Instruments: Piano Flute
I have been playing and teaching professionally for 32 years. I perform approximately 50 gigs per month on piano and flute as a soloist or duo with my husband (who is a teacher and performer on classical guitar, also in the Musika family). I have enjoyed classical music since childhood and would be in awe of anyone with musical ability. I am happy to now be able to play pieces that I thought could only be played by people with exceptional ability. Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard
My approach to teaching is, basically, that playing piano should be enjoyable and fun so I tailor the lessons to the type of music in which the student has interest. I do, however, have a basic structure that includes reading music, finger dexterity and songs at the student's playing level. If there is an interest in contemporary music I have an "easy to learn" approach to chords and accompaniments. I also give lessons in music composition. Read More

My teaching style revolves around a student's interests, and my lessons are modified and personalized for each individual. Every student has a different style of their own, and I work hard to help them develope their style. Learning music should never feel like a chore; it should be a form of self expression. Rather than using only lesson books to teach, i also provide them a blank and personalized lesson journal, in which they learn the foundations of writing, reading and understanding sheet music and music theory. Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard
As far a voice lessons goes, in the beginning there will be many warm-ups before we move on to repertoire. As an instructor, I want to know what type of voice I am working with. It is very important to exercise your vocal chords and train them to be able sing properly. Also, we will be working a lot on posture; how to stand when singing, showing confidence and more!
