In Russia, I was a concert pianist as well as a teacher of classic piano theory and performance.  I was a soloist who performed with a full orchestra as well as being a chamber musician, accompanist for singers and for strings. Since I came to the United States, I have concentrated more on teaching.  I have taught piano at many music schools and have also given private lessons, both at students' homes and at my music studio.  My piano students have won multiple awards at music competitions in Russia and the United States.  In 2006, a student of mine won first prize at the West Chester University Music Competition.  Then in 2011, my students won prizes in the International Music Competition, the National League Competition and the Tri-County Competition. My teaching experiance has been mainly one one one. I've never given group lessons mainly because you can't totally focus on the student when there are several people involved. The best teaching/learning situation is the individual lesson where the focus is on one person. All my lessons are with one individual. Teaching violin is my greatest passion in life and I have dreamt of teaching since I was very young. I went to Mason Gross for both music education and also for violin performance. It is equally important to learn music from method books and through sonic exploration; I have personally learned a lot from books and while "noodling."When teaching trumpet (all skill levels), I use books including Arban's Complete Conservatory Method, Clarke's Technical Studies, and Schlossber's Daily Drills and Technical Studies.For guitar and bass guitar (beginner through intermediate), I start with Hal Leonard's Play Bass Today series. This method is especially helpful when I am teaching very young beginning students. I thrive teaching children between 6-9. I emphasize consistent good practice for a short period of time. I encourage my students to fit their practice in transitional times. Practice after dinner, practice before your homework, etc. for 5-10 minutes. It is consistent good practice that allows you to progress faster rather than long unfocused work. I find my students love this idea and it gives them proper freedom in their practice. Read More
