From the first lesson, its essential to develop the pupils ability to feel the expressiveness of music with his gradually developing. The basis of teaching piano to beginners is the education of the pupils artistic thought together with his emotional response to musical expressions. Working on music pieces, one-voice or complex ones, I train the students to listen attentively to the musical texture, to create an intelligent reproduction of contents, to feel deeply its musical character I provide stories and games for younger students and metaphors for adults in order to help them understand the meaning of music. I applaud the strengths I see in my students and I make them catch up on their weaker parts. However, I dont pressure anyone too much - I dedicate some time to improving on a difficult task, but I do not spend an entire lesson drilling the same thing, for it gets exhausting and unpleasant. The most important thing is to repeat the same process consistently, even if little by little. Read More

Making lessons fun is my top priority, and I show that learning the basics and the fundamentals can be fun, if it is done correctly. For beginning students, I use John Thompson's books. Students progress through Bastien, and Burgmuller, before moving on to graduated solo repertoire. Intermediate and advanced students will work on core Classical and Romantic period piano works, while building dexterity and fluidity by playing scales, chords, and arpeggios. Read More

My teaching is very student-driven. I try to keep the students interests as a primary goal in keeping their interest level and so that they can progress in a musical situation. When they are interested in what they are learning, they strive for success. I try to acknowledge their successes and accomplishments which helps keep them learning and wanting to learn more. The best way to learn music is to teach it effectively, and I ALWAYS am learning from my students in a variety of ways, whether it be a new group that I'm not familiar with, or another style or genre that is new and fresh. For beginning students, I normally start with Alfred's Drum Method. This book works on the fundamentals of reading snare drum music and basic technique. Once the students grasps the basics on reading and playing with a metronome then we tend to move to Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials (while still working on the Alfred's Method). After the student has began to play with the audio tracks and have succesfully gone through a few lessons from Groove Essentials then we begin to work on some solo repertoire and personal favorites as well. I will have the have a notebook so that every class we can write down what the student needs to practice and and work on till next time. The student might feel bored in the beginning but I hope to show the student the fun in learning music and how rewarding it feels to learn a piece. Watching the student grow and start to have interest on their own is what is most important. Read More
