For young beginners, I prefer to use Alfred, piano adventure and Bastien method book. I also use piano tree to teach young kids as well. Once my students finish the fundamental study I will begin to introduce classical pieces and all other genres as well. Also I will provide two recitals every year to give students an opportunity to perform in front of their family and friends. For adults beginners, I prefer to use Alfred for adult all in one. For Beginners who are just learning how to read music, I usually start off with Faber's method, there is a version for adults as well as children. This seems to progress at a very suitable speed, comfortable yet still challenging, and has proved to be quite effective in getting basics down. I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002.  I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time.  I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency.  I keep up to date professionally  through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program.  Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers.  The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually.  Each student can have their own "best assignment". I use my own materials and lesson plans based on my past experiences and education. For beginners, I will generally start with simple songs like Sweet Home Alabama, I Love Rock n Roll, and Heathens. These are all songs that can be played and sung simply and most students have heard them already! For more advanced students, I allow them to choose their own repertoire and will teach within those songs. Read More
