For beginners, I typically begin out of a method book, but I also use studies and etudes that I have developed on my own in the course of my teaching career. Throughout the learning process, I engage the student with real music to build listening skills, and teach concepts like tone, phrasing, and expression. I've seen the face of an 80 year old grasping the ukulele and finally getting to hear himself playing his own songs, and seeing the glow in his eyes like a child.
