Especially for novice students, I adjust the pace in order for the student to ease into the instrument. Especially with piano, I advocate warming up and practicing effectively. In my opinion, it is best to work smarter and be efficient with practice time. Daniel is a versatile musician, composer, and educator. He began playing saxophone at age 11, and has since expanded his repertoire to include multiple woodwind instruments. Originally from midcoast Maine, Daniel has been based primarily out of New York since 2008 when he began his studies at Purchase College. Daniel looks forward to remaining an active teacher in the tri-state area, and a return to Purchase College, this time as a graduate student and he has also recently moved full-time to New York City! For young children, I start with the use of their 10 fingers. We do finger exercises using Middle C as the center and exercise the fingers in up and down playing at the piano. I use the Faber method of study which is fantastic, is graded, introduces all kinds of pieces and a lot of theory. It is a very interesting course and my students do very well using it. Having graduated from Oberlin College, studied at Berklee College of Music, toured as a keyboardist on a national hip hop tour, pursued a Kpop career in Seoul, produced and conceived of a music film in Cape Town, and currently through my teaching/composing/producing work here in New York City, I believe that my rich and diverse set of musical experiences have shaped a very hopeful and motivated musical perspective and sensibility, one which I hope to share.
