I am a professional musician...opera singer, voice and piano teacher, and modest organist. I am originally from Chicago. I have both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music and Pedagogy. I've sung with Chicago Opera Theater, several symphonies, and have given numerous recitals in Chicago and the Boston area. I have been teaching over 25 years, both voice and piano. All of my singers work through the exercises by Mathilde Marchesi as they are the backbone of bel canto and good healthy singing. I encourage my vocalists to explore different styles and techniques to find the best fit for their instruments. I also teach theory and sight singing using various different methods and tools. My passion for teaching began in my Junior year of high school in 2011-2012, when I spent 6 months teaching guitar lessons to elementary school students at a local YMCA after-school program. With a class size of approximately 10-15 students, I learned many valuable teaching methods for students of all backgrounds and learning methods. Later that year, I said goodbye to my students to move to Boston and attend Berklee College of Music, however, in summer of 2014, I revived my passion for teaching when I started a saxophone lesson program at Brighton's All 'Bout Christ church. Generally layed back low pressure lessons, but I will push a student if they let me. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. When I meet new students, I start by figuring out where they are on their journey, and I meet them there. I approach each lesson uniquely, because we are all different and learn in different ways. I teach with a combination of Lesson and Theory books, usually Alfred's Basic, and we will focus on healthy playing technique. I understand that Lesson and Theory books are not always the most interesting, and I supplement materials by teaching chords so students can learn pop songs of their choosing as well. Read More

I can make an original curriculum tailored towards your individual goals. For beginner students who are children, I teach solfege for learning Absolute Pitch, which is connected to playing Western music. Achieving aural skills by singing, and getting sight-reading ability is one of the most important skills in learning to play piano easily. For adult beginners, I also recommend mastering sight-reading, which is how to read pitch, rhythm and length. Read More
