My teaching style includes using multisensory techniques that get the students reading music, listening to music, playing music, and more. I have discovered over many years of teaching that there are many different styles of learning different concepts. What may click for a student in one part of a lesson visually may not click aurally. I began teaching piano my sophomore year of college. During my college career, I built up a studio of nearly 20 students, tutored college-level piano courses, and worked as a Teacher's Assistant in Sight Singing and Aural Training. Since then, I taught for two years at a Summer Music Conservatory in Texas, led week-long keyboard intensive seminars throughout Western Kenya, and most recently, taught at the nation's largest piano conservatory. I studied percussion under Dr. Koontz at Eastern Kentucky University, where I learned to play all sorts of different styles ranging from classical to global. I performed with Eastern Kentucky University's percussion ensemble on various instruments ranging from vibes to marimba, concert snare, and even pan. Soon after, I auditioned for a World Class Indoor Percussion ensemble in Lexington, Kentucky, where I grew exponentially under the tutelage of world-famous instructors such as Nick Angelis and Zach Schlicher.
