In high school I had the great privilege of being selected as the Principal clarinetist in the Minnesota All-State Band. We performed at the summer camp designed for these groups and recreated our performance at Orchestra Hall, home of the Minnesota Orchestra, the following spring. Clarinet is my primary instrument and first love. I also teach saxophone and beginning flute and hope to add other woodwinds in the future. For my beginner saxophone students we will start by assembling the instrument and using the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to learn the basic fingerings and songs. As for my beginner piano students we will start off with the Faber Piano Adventures book and work our way through the lessons. Once the student becomes more comfortable with their instruments we will start introducing appropriate solo repertoire and find songs that the individual student would enjoy learning. Read More

My Mom played the piano when she was growing up and always wanted to be in the band. My Dad was in band when he was a kid. He even played in The University of Texas Band when he went there. It is important to me that I provide a warm, comfortable environment for all my students. I strive to meet the student where they are, set goals, and make plans to achieve them. Voice in particular is a difficult thing to learn, since the mechanisms are internal and difficult to see as well as hard to control directly. That is why many teachers speak through visualization and analogy. After graduation, I was a successful band director in the DFW area for four years before returning to the private lessons world. I love teaching private lessons to students and watching them grow as musicians and people. In addition, I also serve the United States Army Reserve as a clarinetist in the 395th Army Band.
