Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
Hello, I am currently finishing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone performance at the University of North Texas and am a teaching fellow there instructing undergraduate saxophone majors. I was originally accepted as a multiple woodwind major there as I have played flute and clarinet on cruise ships and jazz gigs as well as flute and clarinet classical works. In addition to UNT I have students at Richland College, Melissa ISD and Richardson ISD that I continue to teach. Read More

I'm a patient and encouraging teacher who fully focuses on developing a student's musical interest and talents. In 2012, I graduated from Lehman College with a Masters in Music Education. In 2008, I graduated from The City College of Music with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Performance. As a Music Educator, I've had the opportunity to inspire and enrich young minds to excel in music with the Rochester City School District, Yonkers Public Schools and various charter schools in New York City. Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone Flute
My name is Eric S and I just graduated from SUNY Purchase as a Jazz Saxophone Major in the fall the 2022. I have had many opportunities to play in New York City on both saxophone and trumpet at venues such as Birdland and Smalls. I love talking about jazz with students and spreading the wisdom I have learned on my own journey from many renowned musicians that I have studied with such as Gary Smulyan, Jon Faddis, Doug Stone, and many more. Music is very much a personal subject unique to each person, and I create different lesson plans for every student I have. I have acquired a large amount of sheet music, textbooks, and other sources that I am happy to share with my students. Along with learning the technique of your instrument, I also place emphasis on teaching ear training, aural skills, basic music theory, and writing their own music. Read More

I will be taking students of all ages; young or mature. Unless the student is a very beginner, I essentially go about teaching in the same method with each individual. I WILL TEACH THE STUDENT WHATEVER THEY WANT TO LEARN. Thats right. I've found that learning music is more fun for the student when you get to play what you already know, are comfortable with, or want to learn. It works like this: if the student wants to learn a guitar solo, I will show them the fundamentals of what it takes to understand it, break it down, and execute it. Read More

It is not necessary, however, to learn chords or grooves specifically from a book for these instruments. Depending on the desired style, there may not be much use of notated music, guitar tabliture, etc. But as already stated, this does not excuse a good foundation in reading music and understanding music theory. For more advanced players (who would most likely be percussionists if working with me, though I am willing to work with any instrument at a more advanced level), we would work out of books I and the student(s) find fitting for their skill level. Yes for teaching piano I use Nancy and Randall Faber's books. I have used all of them. For guitar and mandolin I generally do not use a "book". As the lessons progress I might introduce a book if that is what is called for. All orchestral instruments call for the structure of a book and I augment that with my own explanations. This is true for all ages of learners. Read More
