I approach every genre with a strong foundation in order to make repertoire more approachable, such as learning a variety of scales, developing good tone, and working on method or etude books to strengthen the range of possibilities on their instruments. William joined Musika in 2009. William is a retired college professor who taught woodwinds at the college level for over 25 years. He is an accomplished recitalist on both clarinet and saxophone. He earned the Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from the University of Akron and the Ph.D. in musicology from Kent State University. I have been teaching private instrumental music lessons for two years now. I have gone through a four year degree program in which I've had the opportunity to gain peer teaching experience as well as teaching within various school districts for individual, small, and large ensemble settings. I have also been teaching dance at my mom's studio for the past 6 years. Students are encouraged to take what they've learned and participate in recitals, competitions, and any other musical opportunity they can find. I believe music should be taught as a means of personal expression, and so I also make sure to give students the tools they need to play in an expressive fashion, or even write their own music.
