I’ve had many wonderful mentors in my musical journey over the years, and I would love nothing more than to replicate the experiences that I’ve had for others! As a freelance musician, I believe that musical variety is key to learning and enjoying any instrument. Additionally, I believe that fostering a desire to improve is paramount- the dedication to practice is something no one should take lightly, and being able to find joy and motivation while playing is the key to a lifelong love of music. Learn With Me! Want to be a musical chameleon or become a virtuoso on one instrument? You're in the right place. My goal with teaching music is to equip students with the tools and mindset necessary to free themselves of limitations. I want to work with you to identify your goals, and work towards them in which you will actually have fun and learn. Before taking lessons, I invite prospective students to do a trial session in which you can experience my teaching method and I can answer any questions you may have. Read More

I began teaching lessons privately in high school, about 6 years ago, and throughout college consistently. I have taught brand new musicians, who have never opened their instrument case, all the way through high school levels. I believe in starting the young musicians right with a good sound. Together we will work on basic technique on each instrument, which will then assist them in learning music for band, their school ensembles or just personal knowledge and growth. Read More

I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students. I began my teaching days informally when I was still a student at Fairport High School. Some family friends wanted to learn how to play saxophone, so I began teaching them. Next thing I knew, I had a small-time music studio in my parents' basement! I was teaching saxophone as well as jazz improvisation at that time. I took a break from teaching when I went to college, and began teaching again the summer after I graduated. Read More

Philosophy Every student, musician and person is different. I think it's my job to find out what inspires and motivates each student, and guide them towards their goals. I think it's important that it has to be fun to be interesting, and the other way around, only then can the student reach their full potential as a musician. At the core my goal is for the student to improve, and enjoy how wonderful it is to play music. Read More

Growing up in a musical family instilled a love of music as a child. My father was an accomplished jazz pianist and when I was 15 years old I began playing professionally. I had great teachers in my formative years, from my father, my band directors and to my private instructors, I learned that developing simple concepts to tackle seemingly complex ideas was the key to my success. I graduated from Texas State University in 2001 with a B.A. in Music Performance. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
