I began teaching people how to play instruments when I was in high school, by teaching new students to the band how to play percussion. I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. From there I worked with the Rich South high school band director and the Jack Hille middle school band directors. Once I graduated college I taught choir and instrumental music for the catholic school system for two years. Read More

I graduated from Oakland University in 2014 with a bachelors degree in music. I am not currently a Masters Student at Roosevelt University where I study with CSO Principal trombonist Jay Friedman. I maintain an active free lancing schedule in the city playing musical theater, orchestras, and in chamber music groups throughout the Chicagoland area. In addition to my vast classical experience I also have a strong jazz/contemporary music background. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the trombone, piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

It is important to have a broadened perspective of what it means to be a well rounded musician while having concentrated study in a specific genre or idiom. In my lessons, I strive to cover the major elements required to be a successful trombonist or musician in not only the jazz idiom, but the general music industry as a whole. These subjects include: sight reading, music theory, aural training, music listening, improvisation, composition, arranging, basic music notation, basic music recording techniques, historical and cultural contextualization, music entrepreneurship, and performance edict. I want my students to find enjoyment and purpose from making music first and foremost. Every student has a unique set of skills, and not every student learns the same way. I believe that something valuable can be learned from any single piece of music. Etude books, like Voxman's Selected Studies, and Rochut's Melodious Etudes are my go to for daily practice, but are not the only option available. I like to take a pragmatic approach to teaching, and will modify any exercises and routines as needed to get the best result from each student. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trombone
My passion for teaching began my senior year of high school when I assumed a leadership role within my band program. I led trombone and brass sectionals and helped to mentor younger students. As a result of those experiences, I built a private studio of trombone students made up of my classmates and have maintained a private studio ever since. As I grew as a musician I began to teach jazz improvisation to other instruments and added beginning piano students to my roster. Read More

Throughout my life I have been an active member of bands, choirs, and drama. In high school I was a part of every ensemble available including the Lockport Marching Porters, jazz bands, pep bands, and the top group the Wind Symphony for three years. Simultaneously all four years I participated in every choir I could, as well as the spring musicals, often with lead roles. In college I was part of the Wind Symphony, Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Bands, the Marching Illini: Baritone Squad-Leader, British Brass Band, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble/quartets, and the Varsity Mens Glee Club chorus.
