I have been a music educator in the public schools for over 40 years having taught in Austin, Texas and currently in Fort Worth, Texas. Many of my students have gone to play their instruments in college bands throughout the state. Several former students are currently teaching music at the secondary and college level. I do not approach my teaching to focus on a student's future as a musician. All make individual choices on musical endeavors. Read More

When learning to play an instrument, I believe it is important to start at a slow pace to make sure students comprehend all of the musical elements. To all of my students, I will treat them with kindness and honesty. Honesty is important as a teacher because my goal is to help students find where they can grow and show them ways to do so. For all of my students, I expect them to practice each day and put all of their attention to refining their art. Read More

The biggest joy in teaching and working with students is seeing them develop a passion and love for music. My teaching experience is very hands on and I love to model everything that I teach. It's important for my students to progress at his or her own pace and I encourage this by setting goals for my students at each lesson. Positive reinforcement goes such a long way and I love letting my students know when they are making progress or accomplish something. Read More

I'm a passionate and driven young musician eager to share the knowledge and experience I have and grow with others through teaching. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree in Bass Trombone Performance at New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts, studying under James Markey, bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I have performed around the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, Spain, France, and Massachusetts, in great halls like the Meyerson Symphony Center and Tanglewood's Seiji Ozawa Hall. Read More

Encouraging them to share with their families what they are working is always a good way to assure that they'll have a good support system throughout, which normally gets them more motivated to improve. Making sure they are having a good time throughout our lesson and during their practice times is key. Encouraging them from early on to expose themselves to performances and competitions is something that I always enforce, this is, after all, something that is meant to share with others. Read More

I began teaching lessons in college, and have enjoyed it from the very first day. I try to evaluate each student spefifically and see what they need to improve in the most efficient manner possible. Exercises and drills are present in my lessons, but I alwaystry to teach the bulk of trumpet fundamentals through actual music such as etudes, solos, band music, duets, etc. In this style of teaching, the students can pick what they want to play (after I give them a few guidelines), and we can still target the areas of playing that need work. After thirty years I still love to play and talk about music! I've added more instruments to my skillset over the years just so I can write and create more music out of my home studio. I just released my first album, Influenced, in 2017 and for the first time will be performing music from the album at Denton Arts & Jazz! My first professional music job out of high school was in the Army band where I spent four years playing my trumpet and seeing the world. Read More
