For beginning trombonists I like to start with the standard Hal Leonard Essential Elements book, which teaches all of the fundamentals of great trombone playing. As the student progresses I add in various etude books that teach technical ability, musicality, and facility on the instrument. Since moving to Ann Arbor 15 years ago, all of my students have reached the top band in their high schools and most were first chair/section leader by their senior year. I had always known that I wanted to become a music teacher, but this is the time of my life when I really started discovering my potential in the education community. Students that I have worked with have achieved Superior Ratings in OMEA Solo and Ensemble events, have been part of various honor bands and extra-curricular groups.
