Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. If the student is not in a class yet, I would recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I also have a collection of fundamentals and warm ups that I have saved from my middle school, high school, and college years that I will use with students depending on ability level. In addition, I strive to teach music as a language; learning it both aurally and visually, developing an ear for music and self-evaluation while learning to read the notes on the page.
