I've been teaching trumpet since I was a freshman in High School. My mother is a band director for Selma Middle School and frequently asks me to tutor students or conduct a group session. After High School, many private teaching opportunities opened up for me, including Hope Middle School, Red Wood Middle School, Clinton Middle School, as well as brass tech for Topsail High School and Clinton High School. For beginner and even some intermediate students I like the Sigmund Hering Method. I also love Embouchure Builder by Lowell Little. For high school players I like to introduce more solo material and advanced method books including The Claude Gordon Systematic Approach and books by Charles Colin, Earl Irons and Herbert Clarke. While i believe there are certain basic of play the trumpet that are accepted worldwide i do not believe there is only one correct method and encourage my students to incorporate several methods to create their own personal sound. I'm trying to put each student in touch with their inner creative. Everyone learns at a different pace and my approach is to teach something to mastery level rather than fill a quota. Inspiration and the joy of playing is first and foremost with my approach. I started giving trombone lessons to grade and high school student's since 2005. In 2006 I started leading concert and jazz bands. Immediately out of college in 2008 I worked as a music teacher teaching guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and voice for 3 years. In 2011, I moved to Peru where I was the #1 on call jazz trombonist in Lima, and was a trombone professor at the National Conservatory of music where I taught trombone technique and jazz improvisation.
