My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success. I always look for a way so the student understands the miscommunication when learning a new subject. I ask many questions and make the student think. I help the student make physical and mental connections when learning something new. Read More

I began teaching trumpet when I was a high school student. My students were middle school aged peers within my school district that needed additional guidance. While in college, I maintained two dozen or so students within my own private studio. Some of these students were non-music majors that were given to me by my own voice professor. My primary instrument is the human voice. A complicated yet versatile instrument that is unique in every person, and as such should be treated with specific pedagogical methods that best suit a student's age, skill level, and learning style. As the founder of a music program, I am a passionate and caring instructor who loves working with students of all ages and thrives on making lessons a great experience. Born and raised in San Antonio, I began taking piano lessons at six years old and started composing music at age 12. During high school, I taught piano lessons along with other side music jobs such as piano refinishing and music engraving. Read More

I feel that there are a few basic concepts that all teachers must understand, one of which is, all students are different. Teachers may use similar tools, as means to teach a lesson, but how those tools are used will vary from mentor to mentor, and student to student. I believe knowledge of fundamentals is a crucial part of understanding one's instrument and being able to wield it effectively, no matter the skill level. Read More

Mostly unknown to the local jazz scene, word-of-mouth drew people to hear his unique sound at small bars in East Austin. Soon his shows were being described as "...crazy good and crazy crowded."(Joe Gross, Austin American-Statesman). In March of 2010 "Jeff's 1950s Miles Davis Tribute" drew a large crowd at One World Theatre with the help of media sponsor NPR affiliate KUT/KUTX, though competing with opening night of SXSW in nearby downtown Austin. For older students, especially high schoolers, I like to use a blue book called Foundations for Superior Performance (Warm-Ups and Technique for Band) by Richard Williams and Jeff King as the techniques in that book are more suited for what a high school-level player should be expected to play. As for adults, I recommend Brass Gym as well as books from made by university professors and other professional instrumentalists. Moving beyond warm-ups and technique mastery, I like to find different solos that appropriately challenge and help hone on a skill that my student is focusing on working on. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
