The role of an instructor is to facilitate the curriculum from the perspective of making the student understand their place in the continuum of the course material being taught. For example, I taught music history with a firm understanding of timeline, events and major human figures involved. However, I focused on making the student deeply familiar with the given time-periods by discussing in depth the human activities involving societal norms, cultural sensibilities and most certainly we analyzed the music; why it sounded the way it did and what were the cultural intentions, via expressivity of the performers and composers.
