I started teaching private flute lessons to beginners in the Twin Cities area10 years agowhen I was in High School. I relocated to Duluth for college and continued my private teaching as I earned my degree in Music Education. Over the course of my education, I expanded my specialties to include all band instruments in the private lessons that I offer. After graduating with my degree, I taught at Solon Springs School in Northern Wisconsin for two years where I taught three band classes, two general music classes and many other music activities Read More

I am a great listener, who listens to the students needs and abilities. I believe that we all go through a metamorphosis, a transformation in our musicianship. Music is meant to be enjoyed not shoved through. I also believe that the student needs to be engaged, and challenged in their musicality by calling them to a higher technique within their abilities to perform. As the instructor, it would be my job to continue to give challenging music for them to develop their minds to make better judgements, and decisions within their lives through music. Read More

For brass, woodwind, and percussion students who are in a school band or orchestra, I would use the school's chosen method book in additional to supplemental materials that I would provide, based on the student's interests and needs. For those who are not in band and are just starting, my preferred method for brass and woodwind players is Tradition of Excellence. For intermediate players, I like to use material from the Rubank Intermediate book in addition to more fun material on an individual basis. Read More
Instruments: Voice Trumpet
For beginner trumpeters, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements and then slowly transition into solo repertoire that suits their skill set as they make it into the intermediate level. As advanced players, we will focus on refining skills with drill books as well as work on standards in solo repertoire. For my vocal students, we will always work on range and flexibility exercises as well as vocal repertoire from multiple genres that suit the skill level of the singer. Read More

Depending on whether it be voice or instrumental my methods will differ slightly. For beginning voice students (-12) I teach out of a folk songs book, and if they choose, challenging disney repertoire which adds an element of fun, but also is educational. for Intermediate students (12-15) I use the same folk songs book but apply more advanced techniques on proper singing technique, then depending on their level, I might do more advanced repertoire which fits them. Instruments: Trumpet
My teaching style is simple! I make having fun the most important part, especially for beginners because no one wants to do anything that isn't fun! It was the same for me when I started learning tennis. I ensure first that a student has a general grasp on basic scales and mechanics that are essential for the trumpet and afterwards I like to look into other components of the trumpet such as intonation, trumpet concertos and more advanced concepts such as attacks, soft/loud, playing higher, etc. Read More

Traditional but relaxed, with the goal of helping the students to reach their maximum level by building on success. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it’s important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my student at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students’ desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.By trying to find out what inspires the student. Read More
