I'm a violin/viola teacher who is very dedicated and passionate about music and playing. I am also very kind to children in a fun and encouraging way to learn. I graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music in violin performance. I continued to Peabody Conservatory of Music, University of Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for Master of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma in violin performance. After I finished the school, I joined the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra as a part time work in addition to teaching students. Read More

Ive been in choirs (from community to All-State) since I was born, literally - my mom was the church choir director, and I followed suit, assisting her and student-directing my high school choir. I started piano lessons in 4th grade and used it to compose my own music and play in churches since then. I began studying violin in kindergarten via the Suzuki Method and played in the Trevecca Symphony Orchestra in Nashville, TN from 2007-2018. Read More

My teaching philosophy revolves around nurturing musical independence among my students. It is my goal that they can confidently approach a piece, making informed decisions about both technical and musical aspects. To facilitate this, I employ creative mnemonic techniques, transforming complex concepts into catchy and memorable phrases. By integrating multiple schools of music and violin playing, including Russian, French, and American traditions, I provide students with a holistic foundation. My approach blends technical exercises inherited from pedagogues like Ivan Galamian with interpretive insights gained from world-class musicians. Read More

For my youngest students, age 7 and under, I begin with Adventures in Violinland, a wonderful method written by Shirley Givens, instructor at Peabody Preperatory. This teaches note reading with a solfegg system. It has a strong emphasis on technique. For beginners ages 8 and up, I use either Essential Elements or Sound Innovations, usually matching it with whatever the school district uses that the student lives in. As the students progress, I use the Suzuki repertoire as well as various scale and technique books. Read More

Whether it's a young beginner or an advanced adult student, I adapt my teaching materials and repertoire selection accordingly. Foundational Skills: I prioritize the development of fundamental skills, including proper posture, bowing technique, finger placement, and intonation. These basics form the bedrock upon which students can build their musical abilities. Repertoire Diversity: I introduce students to a wide range of musical genres, from classical to contemporary, to keep lessons engaging and inspire a love for music. Read More

I have been sharing my love of music and teaching students for more than 10 years. I strongly believe in encouraging my students to practice and set up goals that would help them grow. These goals include learning a new challenging piece, getting prepared for a recital, audition or competition. I believe in helping my students with learning how to practice on their own and being able to work independently from our lessons. Read More

I have been teaching for six years, giving lessons at my home to students aging from 6 to 60. In addition to private lessons, I have worked as an assistant coach to the Harford String Orchestra, a youth orchestra for gifted middle school students. As a teacher, my goal is to share my passion and love of music, by combining classical music with music my students are interested in. This has proven to form a compromise with students, making lessons and practicing more appealing, especially for younger students interested in playing music they are already familiar with. Read More
