I am a patient teacher and encourge students to work at their own pace. If we need to spend more time on a certain concept or technique than one lesson allows, we will. I want to make sure that they understand throroughly before moving on to the next concept. At the same time, I want my students to feel challenged in their lessons so that they will be willing to go home and put the work in during their practice time. Read More

I am a professional cellist and instructor who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my passion of music living in Indianapolis with my wife. I started teaching when I was in high school. I was inspired by both my parents who are teachers and I learned a lot from them. I started growing my studio when I was in school, about 7 years ago, I was teaching at soundboard music in Stow, Ohio. My private studio kept growing so i decided to leave the music store and it has been growing since then. I love encouraging students to practice and keeping them motivated to really work hard and feel good about what they had done. Read More

There is no one size fits all method for teaching anybody. What’s important is to strike a balance of activities that works for the student, engaging their desire to learn while giving them the structure necessary for success. For example, many students want to learn their favorite pop song or the latest hit from their favorite movie. I want to help them not just play those songs, but use that as a way to learn valuable skills for future musical interests. Read More

When starting with a young beginner student, I typically start with the beginning Suzuki Method books or Essential Elements books. I will also work on school repertoire if applicable. Once they have advanced past the level of the Suzuki books, I will begin to introduce solo works appropriate for their level and desire. When teaching adults of varying abilities, my methods are much more tailored to their wants in terms of style of music, difficulty of the pieces and the speed at which they would like to learn. Although I am not a certified Suzuki teacher, I do utilize the Suzuki books for beginning students. I find that they provide a good breadth of repertoire suitable for students who are new to their instruments. For more advanced students, I use standard repertoire for their instrument, making sure each piece teaches them to hone a skill while also preparing them for big auditions. I believe it is important to have a long and diverse repertoire list. Read More
