For beginning students in any genre, I begin with learning songs. Classical, jazz, bluegrass, and rock are more easily understood when you spend time playing the music with someone else. Repertoire is chosen with the understanding that fundamentals are key to life long participation and students find positive success when they are able to then share a completed work with their friends and family (think holiday get-togethers!) For young intermediate to advanced players, the philosophy of building one's repertoire continues with the added focus on musical understanding. Read More

If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions to make sure the students thoroughly understand the previous lessons from the previous chapters. For beginning students, I've used the Mel Bay's modern bass and guitar methods, James Bastien piano library, Essential Elements for wind instruments, Advanced Rock drumming and Master theory books by Charles S. Peters and Paul Yoder or any music books and online documents download by the the student. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than having a student fall in love with music and playing it for themselves and others. It is important to me that each student not only progresses in skills and technique, but also gains a deeper love and understanding of music. I believe playing in a group with other like-minded musicians is essential for every musician. That is why I strongly encourage my students to join an orchestra, ensemble, band, or any other group that interests them. Read More

For beginning students, I teach them the basics first, and then simple and fun pieces that they can master.  For intermediate students, I start them on method books and more advanced techniques.  With advanced students, I help them refine their playing and personalize each piece that they learn. This makes it far more enjoyable for The student, as well as more relevant. I know that this relevance is what keeps students interested and playing their instruments in the long term, whether recreationally or professionally. Read More

My initial lessons for all ages and levels begin with discussing expectations, motivations, and past experiences with music. Lessons should feel engaging fun, and productive. New players will learn fun ways to read music, feet positions, and hand exercises. Once a foundation is established, we'll learn more advanced skills and solo material. Beginners and intermediate players will always encounter scales and etudes as well as solo material just challenging enough to learn something new and fun enough they'll practice until they rock it. The way I approach teaching is very much a mix between tradition and improvisation. Every single student is different so I try to tap in to their personality and use that to help them. The work of learning the instrument is divided in 2 parts, the teachers part and the student. The teacher has to be clear, loving and practical to help the student progress. The students part is to consistently work at home to improve on the skills learned during the lesson. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
