For beginning students, I start with the "I Can Read Music" and Suzuki Book 1. I am not a certified Suzuki teacher, nor do I teach in sync with the Suzuki style, but I do use the Suzuki book repertoire as I like the progression of ideas presented in the series. The experience I had started with was a community center in an underprivileged area of Kansas city in 1973 as a Senior in High School and extended to many retail establishments of the Kansas city metro and beyond. I have also taught private lessons in my residence and in homes of many students during the pandemic. I aim to motivate students through encouragement and enthusiasm. I believe it is important to keep lessons fun and engaging while maintaining focus on technique. During each lesson, I always find something to compliment the student on because I believe it is important that the student recognizes their improvement. I do set weekly goals for my students. They include practice time, a new technique, and memorization of music. The methods I use for teaching primarly depends on the students' style of learning and the level that they are at musically.  For beginning students I use a lot of visual and aural techniques and for more advanced students I build on what they arleady know and challenge them to go further.  I am also familiar with the suzuki method and pop music styles.
