For young beginners, I use a lot of the Suzuki Method of teaching. Music games, pitch recognition and rhythms are all introduced as games during the lessons. My adults study from a combination of pieces, exercises, scales and duets. I think understanding the pieces you are playing is important so students learn how to recognize key signatures and time signatures. I have many students participate in school orchestra and youth orchestra programs so students are coached on how to prepare, how to audition and learn how to cope with nerves. Read More

I love music and love creating music experiences with others. I was in the I violin section in the Fairbanks Symphony orchestra the last few years. I received my Suzuki Teacher Certification for Violin books 1-6 in 2018. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Violin Performance in May of 2016. I've had much experience playing in an orchestra and being a part of string ensembles. I was concertmaster of the Moore County Philharmonic for 2 years. Read More

Open-minded and flexible, Nerea strives for her students to learn through fun, hands on activities, always leaving her lessons with smiles on their faces. Beginner students are always taught the basics of posture, positioning and how to move the bow on the strings. They then go on to learn bowing and the strings names, followed by finger position and musical pieces. Although Nerea focuses on technique, she always tries to get her student play songs/musical pieces quickly, even if they are simple. Read More

I expect my students to come into their lessons with a notebook and pencil so that they can write down what happens during the lessons. This is how they look back and reflect during their individual practice. As the online teacher, the best I can do is give tips and ideas about playing so that my students can bring their knew knowledge into their own musical experiences; wether that is with another string teacher or with other musical friends.
