I'm a very passionate and caring teacher who loves nothing more than to share my love for music. I've had sixteen years of formal professional training in piano starting at the age of four, as well as six years of cello which I played in the ASYO for four years. I also was the middle and high school pianist, church and choral accompanist from grades 6-12. I was pointed towards being a concert pianist had I continued in performance. Read More

I have experience of teaching children and adults for over 30 years and have worked with students in Russia, Canada and USA. My teaching experience started in 1984 in Russia, when I was a college student. Those days I worked part time at music school. Then I taught private lessons in Vancouver, Canada for 6 years. I have been teaching lessons in my home studio in Lutz, Florida since 2009. I love to encourage my students to learn how to play many different genres to have a clear idea that music is endless and they always can find music pieces that they really enjoy playing. Read More

I also heavily believe in the integration of different subjects of learning in order to enhance the application of knowledge. For instance, learning about counterpoint is the perfect opportunity to include music history to track trends and usage of counterpoint and encourage practical application in the form of composition (also creating the opportunity to learn a little about orchestration). In that example alone, there are four areas of music education wrapped up in one topic. Read More

My teaching style is based on 3 of my core beliefs. (1) The student is the most important person in the class ( This is why I do not force a particular method on every student. I adapt to each student's learning style). (2) Music should be fun ( This is why I chose music that the student can relate to ) (3) Every task can be easy or difficult. Every single task has a pattern that, if you know it, makes the task very easy. ( This is why I reveal these patterns to my students and these patterns make them learn easily, naturally and rapidly)(Most of my beginner students learn to play a complete song with both hands in their very first lesson------Why?------PATTERNS ). Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. It's important that each of my students progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Yes, one young man in Mechanicsburg won special honors because of his successful piano career in high school. Unfortunately, He contracted AIDS and died as he entered college.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
For me the most difficult was the fingering of difficult passages. That's why I stress this with my students. it was not always interesting but rather boring so it took an exceptional amount of discipline.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My solo senior recital in college for which I preparedI featured Brahms and Schubert both Romantic composers. the Schubert was particular to my soul, as it depicted a base roll which reminded me os someone with an addiction like my Dad. But the piece also had a melodic escape from the horror of being addicted which also depicted my Dad.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Availability mostly. We didn't have a harp, but we had the piano. But I always loved the piano music. It was an easy sell. I have always loved piano and it percussiveness but thought it would be smarter to major in organ. However the organ prof wasn't sympathetic to the young woman's goal to be professional and I thought it wiser to major in piano and minor in voice
When will I start to see results?
If you can identify a song's melody, or hear the child humming a piece they are working on, you can begin to claim them as results. If they don't express themselves, maybe in about 6 to 12 months.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had 2 teachers who inspired me to go into music, both piano teachers: Mrs, Stebbins always gave me more modern, familiar tunes to work on even if only on the melody to play for her and she was always enthusiastic when I played the tune by ear.Dr. Centrone in my advanced stages always allowed me to accompany his girl's chorus which was an honor and I played the solo spotlight in his recitals.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Review our lesson no less than 4 times a week and not just before you come for your next lesson. good musicians learn little by little over a period of time with good hard work.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If your child asks questions about their parents history, or "noodle" on the keyboard, show an interest in an older student of adult, you might want to begin the process. Interview a teacher, read up on some contemporary artists who have made it and your child likes.
