I have been teaching for about 10 years now, both privately and in various music lesson stores throughout the Tampa Bay area. I have taught students ranging from 5 to 60 years of age. My students have been accepted into Blake Performing Arts High School, All County Orchestras, Tampa Bay Youth Orchestras, Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestras, and even Florida's All State Orchestras. I have also been able to develop my students' abilities from being last in their orchestras to first chair in their music programs. Read More

I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from King University in 2016 with a degree in Music Education as well as a focus in piano. Music has been my passion and focus since a very young age. I have had various piano performance opportunities. From playing in competition with my 4-H group, playing for my college theater department for their plays, accompanying an elementary choir, performing an hour long solo recital in college, to playing for a City Council event. Hello! I am a highly energetic and passionate music educator from the central Florida area. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a wide range of instrumental students in and out of the classroom. My primary focus is percussion (contemporary and orchestral), but I am proficient on several other instruments as well. My main goal as an educator is to help students understand the fundamentals of music at a higher level and fine tune their skills on their chosen instrument. Read More

Music and teaching it to others has been my life's work and passion. I am classically trained (obviously) and I am the first and still only person in my family to graduate from a four year college and later graduate school, having earned BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance with a minor in organ at Shenandoah University. In addition to 27 years of music ministry, 26 years as an accompanist and/or MD (classical and music theatre settings) and of course 16 years of private piano teaching, my greatest professional accomplishment is having played at Carnegie Hall in June 2014. All of my students learn piano classically, but I focus on finding other genres and styles that will help the student become connected with the music they learn to create. Students can expect to have structured lessons that incorporate technique exercises, rhythmic foundations, music theory, and repetoire that is appropriate for their age and ability. Each student will be assigned "homework" every week that is encouraging and motivates them to practice on their own. Read More

It is really fulfilling for me to see my students use the knowledge they gain from my instructions to improve their playing level. Effective practice habits are agreed upon between myself and each student. Goals cannot be achieved without effective practice habits. Students are encouraged to participate in their community and school music performance activities, enter competitions and do music examinations. These activities build self-confidence, help students to develop a sense of accomplishment and measure their progress. Read More

For beginning level students of any age, I will begin lessons by going over basic fundamentals of sheet music reading (notation, connecting the instrument to the literature) and music theory that will aid them in accomplishing homework tasks independently. For experienced students, I will ask the student to demonstrate knowledge and playing to their best ability to obtain a better understanding of where to continue their studies. I will also ask all students what kind of music they are already studying and what else they would like to pick up from there (studying classical contemporary for school band with an interest in starting jazz music, etc.) I will always consider the students age and playing level to appropriately create lesson plans that will ensure growth over time. Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Yes, one young man in Mechanicsburg won special honors because of his successful piano career in high school. Unfortunately, He contracted AIDS and died as he entered college.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
For me the most difficult was the fingering of difficult passages. That's why I stress this with my students. it was not always interesting but rather boring so it took an exceptional amount of discipline.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My solo senior recital in college for which I preparedI featured Brahms and Schubert both Romantic composers. the Schubert was particular to my soul, as it depicted a base roll which reminded me os someone with an addiction like my Dad. But the piece also had a melodic escape from the horror of being addicted which also depicted my Dad.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Availability mostly. We didn't have a harp, but we had the piano. But I always loved the piano music. It was an easy sell. I have always loved piano and it percussiveness but thought it would be smarter to major in organ. However the organ prof wasn't sympathetic to the young woman's goal to be professional and I thought it wiser to major in piano and minor in voice
When will I start to see results?
If you can identify a song's melody, or hear the child humming a piece they are working on, you can begin to claim them as results. If they don't express themselves, maybe in about 6 to 12 months.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had 2 teachers who inspired me to go into music, both piano teachers: Mrs, Stebbins always gave me more modern, familiar tunes to work on even if only on the melody to play for her and she was always enthusiastic when I played the tune by ear.Dr. Centrone in my advanced stages always allowed me to accompany his girl's chorus which was an honor and I played the solo spotlight in his recitals.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Review our lesson no less than 4 times a week and not just before you come for your next lesson. good musicians learn little by little over a period of time with good hard work.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If your child asks questions about their parents history, or "noodle" on the keyboard, show an interest in an older student of adult, you might want to begin the process. Interview a teacher, read up on some contemporary artists who have made it and your child likes.
