Having been a product of a school orchestra myself, I will use a more traditional teaching approach. Once the students has progressed more, I use Suzuki Method books, and also, choose (introduce) solo pieces for recital performance. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in and find the book that fits their interest (and guide my instruction accordingly to engage them). Beginning violin is important. I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to help teach the functionality and basic building blocks of playing the violin. Moving forward, the best introduction into violin music itself is the Suzuki Violin School volume set. Each book helps students through various levels during their beginner phase. These pieces not only serve as educational material but also as solo repertoire for beginners in recitals. I teach beginning students both by rote and through reading. We use standard Suzuki books for repertoire and method books such as Wohlfahrt, Mazaz, and Sevcik. Very young students begin on Sassmanshaus since it is very engaging as well as well written.
