For all of my students, I encourage consistent practicing of their instrument in order for them to grow and build their musical skills. Students are given scales, modern and classical pieces to practice. I find the combinations of these three things let most students see how diverse strings can be. I try to create games for my younger students so they enjoy practicing early on. I also have concerts regularly for all of my students who are able to attend. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I am a graduate of Millikin University's performance program and have been fortunate enough to perform all over the world. Music is life for me and I enjoy the "Light bulb" moments when the students are learning and the fingers just work! My students have been very successful in competitions ranging from college scholarships to Ms. Tennessee. I will teach to get you where you want to go! I believe we have to learn the basics first, and then we can work towards your goal. Read More
Instruments: Violin Banjo Fiddle
I have been teaching since I was about 14 years old. In addition to teaching private lessons to children and adults, I run my own fiddle camp called Oak Park Fiddle Camp, and have taught workshops and festivals at camps such at Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp. Read More
Instruments: Violin Bass Guitar
I try to keep my students engaged by making games for them to play while practicing. I also like to keep my students set on a goal for a given period, I believe this motivates them to push themselves. I try to be understanding of every students circumstances, so I'm understanding if a student doesn't practice for a given week. While I would like all my students to practice, I first and foremost believe consistency is important so just keeping them on the right track is often satisfactory to me. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Element's for Strings or Beth Lavender's A Better Beginning. These books introduce the fundamental position and note reading techniques in a logical progression. After the student has grasped the fundamentals, they are welcome to bring in contemporary songs. I find that a mixture of fundamentals and fun recognizable songs keeps students both progressing technically and connected to the music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Fiddle
For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. Fiddle is my specialty, but I also teach classical violin and even my fiddle students will learn classical technique. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola
I like to begin each lesson with a warm up to get the mind and fingers working together. From there we will focus on building technique, musicality, and theory knowledge while focusing on cello repertoire. To end each lesson, we'll break out something fun whether that means learning a new pop song, jazz piece, or playing a cello duet. My lessons can be structured based on the students needs and meeting their long term or short term goals. Read More
