For beginning students who are children, I usually would like to encourage them starts to play with little simple songs, likes many of songs they already can singing with. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I want my students to have fun and be able to be inspired to learn and create. I know that everyone learns their way and I do believe myself accommodating and understanding. Learning to read, write, and play music is essentially learning another language and having taught languages for several years, I know people move at different paces.
