Instruments: Violin Cello Viola
Although my formal education is in the sciences, I am a passionate violinist/fiddler who loves sharing my love of music and theater through performance and working with students. I've played violin since the age of four, learning through the Suzuki Method, and continuing through the summers in music camps. During my school years I played viola and cello, and was a member of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, chamber ensembles, and pit orchestra. Read More

My teaching experience is from some years ago more than 30 , because I started teaching music and violin in general since i was 18 years old, and was incredible , my students were profesional musicians but needed some first reading skills and i had to teach people older than me!! Inmediatly at the same age I was focused more in violin and piano teaching skills. As a teacher I have to encourage the daily practice and respect for the instrument, music and teacher. Read More

I am not a method Nazi. I teach what the student needs. If i am teaching a student bass, but they need the agility of a cellist, then I find material suitable to gain that outcome. However, I do understand that students and parents need track-able goals to perceive progress. I am always happy to discuss what method may be best used after I have observed the students aptitude and desired outcome. Read More

I started teaching while in High School some 12 years ago. Gradually my studio has built up and is generally in the 20-30 student range, generally where I like it. I've taught privately in people's homes, in my own studio, for local music studios, and online. In these many years I've found teaching to be as much if not more enjoyable than performing. Instead of showing others my love of music I get to instill it in my students. Read More

For all beginner students I like to start with Essential Elements 2000 for violin. I find it is a great way to introduce reading music notation for students who havent learned yet. Once the student has a good grasp on reading music and playing in upright position, I like to introduce introductory solo repertoire with Suzuki Violin School. I find this is a great way to introduce violin techniques like tone development along with performance elements. Read More

Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. Celebrating daily practice to turn goals into accomplishments, I love seeing my students learn, harness their determination to do more, learn more, and I love seeing my students happy with their self-worth. Following a long, fun and successful 20+ year career as a pro musician, I became a full-time music teacher. I was the founding music teacher at St. Benedict's Episcopal school in Smyrna, GA where I taught music K-8 for seven years. Then I joined The SAE School in Mableton, GA, where for the past three years I have taught K-12 music, creating a new middle school orchestra and high school Project Based Learning curriculum for music.
