Instruments: Violin Cello

I teach using the Suzuki method with an added emphasis on note reading and theory. The Suzuki method is a lot more than just using the Suzuki Repertoire. (In fact, I supplement the Suzuki method with pieces my students use a lot such as Happy Birthday, Jingle Bells, some pieces from Solos for Young Cellists, etc.) So what is the Suzuki method? Suzuki revolutionized the way of learning an instrument. Read More

Instruments: Violin

I follow the Suzuki method for beginner students, with some additional instruction to learn to read sheet music for those with previous music experience or older students who are ready to begin reading music. After the student has completed the first several books of the Suzuki method, I include selections from Solos for Young Violinists and other solo pieces as appropriate to reinforce certain skills. Of course, when students show an interest in learning a particular piece, I am always happy to bring it into their repertoire. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin Keyboard

I am somewhat flexible on books and methods, but unless my students have already invested time and money in a particular published method, I start them on the Bastien series, which is not too expensive and is well designed and effective. As they progress to intermediate, they will be expected to buy some classical music, collections, and technique books. In addition, I will write out some exercises and guiding information and instructions to assist them in their practice and approach to style and technique. Read More

Instruments: Violin Viola

Hi! My name is Lauryn L. and I am 19. Right now I go to BYU, and I am studying Viola Performance. I started viola in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. From 10th grade to 12th grade I went to the Gifted Music School Conservatory in SLC. I graduated from there last year. I have been able to work with many professional musicians through this music school. My favorite memories from my music experience so far was playing in Abravanel Hall with the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra, and playing 2 outdoor concerts at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens with them as well. Instruments: Violin Viola

Each person is different. Because of this, I always make sure each student is going at their own pace. At the beginning of the year, I sit down with each student and we set goals for our playing. I want students to feel motivated and inspired always, and to practice because they love it- not because they feel forced. I have competitions within the studios to motivate practicing, and talk about what we can do at home to make the violin/viola more fun. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
