I believe that no two students are alike. Therefore no single method will produce the best results, if applied blindly. I attempt to identify the strengths of the individual and nurture them to build a satisfactory and most importantly satisfying foundation, from which we can build a successful long term practice. My approach to music and teaching is organic. I see commonalities of expression in nature and music. At the same time it is my opinion that fundamentals need to be mastered absolutely, if musical enjoyment and skill are to be fostered long term. Read More

Open-minded and flexible, Nerea strives for her students to learn through fun, hands on activities, always leaving her lessons with smiles on their faces. Beginner students are always taught the basics of posture, positioning and how to move the bow on the strings. They then go on to learn bowing and the strings names, followed by finger position and musical pieces. Although Nerea focuses on technique, she always tries to get her student play songs/musical pieces quickly, even if they are simple. Read More

I am a passionate and dedicated teacher. I have a gentle approach that works to develop confidence and skill. I am a violinist with over 30 years of experience, and also a mental health counselor. I got started working with children during my graduate education at Regis University, where I specialized in Play Therapy. During that time, I fell in love with working with children. Musically, I specialize in Classical, Irish, Scottish, and Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle traditions. Read More

For beginning students on violin we start with many techniques found in the Suzuki method. From there, we jump into different styles of music while still focusing on developing solid technical foundations for the student. Once we move into standard repertoire the lessons begin to change based on what the student needs. I am a firm believer in consistent practice. I would much rather have a student who practices daily for 15 minutes then a student who does not practice except for the day before their lesson for two hours. Read More
