I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. I began teaching lessons as early as high school. It started out as a way to mentor younger students in my school district and get them ready for auditions for orchestras in high school. I then began to take other students and continued to do so throughout my undergrad. I have had students ranging from age 3 to age 15 before, but youre never too old to start learning music! I have experience with a wide-range of children and can accommodate a variety of cognitive and emotional needs. However, I do teach all ages. My youngest student was 4, and my oldest was 72. I have been teaching violin since 2017. Every student's musical journey is unique and I work with their individual strengths to help them achieve their goals.
