What I like most about lessons is working with the student towards the common goal of making them a better musician. That is done by reaching many smaller goals over the course of weeks and months and possibly years together. With that in mind, I like my lessons to be an open conversation between the two of us. That's why it's a lesson and not a lecture. I always encourage my students to ask questions and bring in material they want to work on or even a cool video they saw. Read More

I started teaching in College after seeing the benifit from teaching Music Education Students brass Technique. I feel the best teachers are constantly putting themselves into situations where they are students. I am always taking classes and learning new things in and around music. I taught myself 3 instruments this very way, and have been able to perform and teach these instruments very effectively. Read More

It's important to me that students are invested in their own lessons, and what this means will differ from student to student. For some five year olds, that may be simply participating in the whole lesson and practicing a few minutes per week. For others, it may mean being challenged with advanced materials. Each student will receive a unique repertoire and lesson based on ability and interests. I focus on technique, then repertoire, then theory, then review for a 30 minute lesson, and younger students will often get a fun music-based game at the end if the lesson has been fruitful. I'm a tender, loving, and caring instructor who's passionate about sharing what I know about music with those I teach and mentor. In 2002, I graduated from Triton Regional School District with a Diploma where I studied long and hard the fundamentals of music as far as performance and writing. From 2002-2003, I decided to go to Northern Essex Community College to focus on General Academics before attending an institution that focused on music. Read More

For piano I prefer the Faber series. I like to include scales, sight-reading, and repertoire of the students choosing and of my suggestion. For Voice I like to cover the anatomical fundamentals (posture, breath, phonation, and depending on age), in the first lesson, and each lesson includes a warm-up as well as at least one piece of repertoire of the students choosing. For guitar I teach note reading as well as tablature, but we mostly work from tablature, unless the student is studying classical. Read More

My teaching experience has began more recently, but I am a teacher who has had the opportunity to be in school learning new things, while being able to also pass down my discoveries with students. I've also found that a combination of classical, modern, and jazz music can go a long way in helping students enjoy their musical experiences. It's important to make sure my students are staying motivated and always learning more than one genre. Read More
