During his time in school, Mike performed in a number of different groups. He has played in situations as varied as Orchestra, Big-band, African Drum Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Combo Jazz Groups, Gamelan Orchestra, Afro-Cuban Ensembles, and Mallet Ensembles. He also performed in freelance rock, jazz, jam, and improvisational groups. Mike began playing at age 7 on both piano and drums and started performing at age 14. For all students, I begin with assignments from 24 Italian Art Songs to teach fundamental vocal technique and develop a classical sound. Depending on the student's interest, they will also be assigned musical theater pieces or art songs in varying languages as well. As a student's ability level goes up, they will be assigned more difficult repertoire as appropriate. Institutions include Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center, Maryland Lyric Opera, Washington Concert Opera, Chautauqua Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theatre Center, Opera Camerata of Washington, The In-Series Opera, The Virginia Consort, Maryland Opera Studio, Washington Opera Society, Juilliard Opera, Central Maryland Chorale and President's Residence at University of Maryland. In 2010, I graduated from the first degree granting Historically Black Institution, The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Vocal Performances and a minor in piano performance.
