Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

At the beginning of my experience with each student, I assess what the goals are for each student/their family, in the musical learning process. I base my teaching on that, within the framework of standard music teaching practices. Throughout the process of the student's learning, I periodically assess, not only the student's progress, but also the student's satisfaction with their learning process. As the need arises, I will make modifications or changes to the teaching, which better suit the student. Read More

Schaum piano methods for the exercises(FINGERPOWER), theory(NOTESPELLER), and REPERTOIRE(Books named after specific colors). I like these books because they progress from simple to truly advanced. For teenagers and adults, I use the All-In-One Alfred piano method.Starts appropriately for level and age. 1 book covers the theory and repertoire we will need. I believe that young children should have lessons no more than 30 minutes. For some older, intermediate, and advanced; the lessons can go to 30-45 minutes. Read More

I am a recent college graduate with a B.A. in music (vocal emphasis) from Lee University who is passionate about providing wholistic music education in ear training, voice, theory, performance, acting, and historical understanding. I have performed with traveling choirs around the world with my college's women's choir, the Ladies of Lee, and I was a member of St. George's Episcopal church choir in their residence at Ely Cathedral in England in 2018. I have been involved in the music industry as a commercial session vocalist, demo singer, and vocal coach for over 35 years. In 1988 I received my associates degree in music performance from Augusta State College, and then moved out west to focus on a career in music. During the 1990s as a commercial session vocalist, I was fortunate to have my voice featured on national network campaigns for ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Wheel Of Fortune. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Element's for Strings or Beth Lavender's A Better Beginning. These books introduce the fundamental position and note reading techniques in a logical progression. After the student has grasped the fundamentals, they are welcome to bring in contemporary songs. I find that a mixture of fundamentals and fun recognizable songs keeps students both progressing technically and connected to the music. Read More

It personally took me more than a minute for my aha! moments. Every student is different and should be taught in the most positive ways. Theres no reason a student should feel rushed or down. We take singing lessons to learn ourselves and have fun mainly! Im a very visual learner so I tend to teach using some wild visual tactics. I want to develop confidence in ourselves and a comfortability that makes us eventually not afraid to be goofy on stage or even by ourselves! Read More
