I believe in Keeping it Fun! We get to play. Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. My focus is for my students to not only understand music, but enjoy it to the fullest extent. For this reason, there is no set structure for all students, but each lesson varies based on the student's needs and wishes. It is incredibly rewarding to watch my students grow in their passion and love for music as well as grow in their confidence. During the first few lessons, we focus on setting goals and building a roadmap that will enable to the student to reach these milestones as well as allow them to dictate where the lessons go and what individual goals they have set for themselves. Once an adequate amount of fundamental material has been grasped, I like to have the student select songs or pieces that they already know of and learn to play simple translations of them that I will prepare. For intermediate students: heavy rigor with more complicated exercise in the form of etudes (piano), vocal runs (voice), and picking exercises (bass/guitar) is encouraged, with an introduction to more complicated music theory and harmony.
