I'm a passionate and motivated teacher and performer who loves working with students and sharing my love of music! I studied musical theatre and opera vocal performance at Southern Utah University. I have had many opportunities to perform locally and nationally including singing the National Anthem for the Paradise Bowl in 2002 making my first television debut. My teachers and mentors include Laurie Winckel, Jamie Vendera, Carol Ann Modesitt, Dr. Ken Peterson Tony Award winner and Grammy-nominated, Lisa Seegmiller. Read More

For beginning students, around ages 5-9, I start with easy songs, but also teach them how singing works. I like to teach technique, and help students improve in their singing. Once students have grasped the fundamentals of singing, I'll let them start looking at solo repertoire so they can practice for a recital performance. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to see what they are interested in to see how I can teach them, and be able to keep them more engaged. Read More

I have been teaching continuously since 2002. I started by teaching undergraduate students at UT and continued in high schools and middle schools in the greater austin area. I encourage students to find the best fit for their interests and talents during lessons. Some students want to be able to sing better in church or school choirs, while others are interested in musical solos or college auditions. I will work with you to find out where you want to go together and we will make a plan to help you get there. Read More

In high school, I was blessed with an incredibly patient, thorough and talented choir teacher. He taught me the fundamental building blocks of musicianship as I understand it best. To this day, I use the key concepts I learned from him in my lessons. 1) Rhythm is the most important element of music. 2) Understanding the importance of persistence, practice, and patience with the instrument. 3) You can manufacture energy and put it into your music. Instruments: Piano Voice
I've received instruction from Robert Skiles (Beto y Los Fairlanes), Rich Harney, Riley Osbourne and Grammy-winning pianist, Floyd Domino, among others. After traveling much of the world as a musician, I am pleased to return to my hometown and share what I've learned with those seeking instruction. My teaching style ranges from simplified beginner lessons that facilitate a basic understanding of music and the piano, to demonstrating shortcuts and tradecraft for more advanced ensemble players. For beginning drum set students, the program I recommend is starting with Drum Set Essentials by Peter Erskine. As skills in rudiments and basic patterns develop, I go on to materials such as Syncopation by Ted Reed (reading, coordination, technique), and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone (technique). For piano, I go over basic theory, major and minor scales, chords and arpeggios and work in Piano For Adults by James Bastien. Read More
