Instruments: Guitar Voice

Being a new teacher I can't speak to really any past experience. All I can say is that music has to be fun period. You're not going to practice if you don't enjoy what you're doing! Read More

I have been coaching singers and teaching piano since my college days. I have been teaching private lessons for more than 15 years now. I specialize in classical singing, particularly the soprano voice. I have a wealth of knowledge in repertoire and technique. I have a strong background in musical theater as well. I enjoy inspiring singers to learn about their instruments and I encourage my students to ask questions and explore new things. Read More

I started out teaching "house call" style lessons, driving ALL over the area, just to gain students and experience! This was while attending graduate study for Music Education as well. Once I built up a good following, mostly via word-of-mouth, I was able to teach both out of my home (upon purchasing my baby grand piano which is currently in my studio today), and then moving into a shared studio space. As a guitar teacher, I like to start with getting the student accustomed with each string, including how to tune a guitar and how to play different notes on each string. Next, I start teaching chords by starting with E minor and then moving as little as possible with the fingers so the student can understand the relation between certain chords. For voice, I start with posture and breath support and work on vocal techniques before we even start with singing songs. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I like to go slow at first and see how things go lesson by lesson. I never like to challenge my students too much in the beginning because it can be rather frustrating to continue learning music. I also believe theory is very important and will ALWAYS include this in my teaching. Read More

The aforementioned points tend to help the student progress and gain a passion for whatever they're studying in music. I've also found that a curriculum that is full of listening homework from all over the world and all throughout history to go a long way in helping students learn things they might not have even known they liked or loved. My students are encouraged to enter the world free of fear, be it performing and or writing music. Read More

For beginning students who are children (3-7 years old), I typically start with the nice songs, which involve dance, animal sounds, musical games, simple percussion instruments, clapping, funny- playful movements. With the older children (8-14) we start learning staff, keys, music notes, basic scales, more complex songs, but still keep the playfulness. If I teach in person - I usually play guitar, so I can move with the students. Teenagers (15-18) are abe to set their own goals, but they're still following the basic music theory approach. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
