While I've taught all ages, I currently am only accepting highschool and online students for online instruction. I do tend to assign, as mentioned elsewhere, listening homework. I do this because I've seen it help students learn what they want to and need to learn faster as well as help students learn to like, love, or at least appreciate new things. The main point here is that every student is complex, difficult, and hard insomuch as teaching method required, but my passion is so great that I don't see issues or problems but rather new opportunities to get students excited about learning and demonstrating what they've learned. My experience goes back to High School when I would give casual tutoring sessions to friends. In college I started teaching lessons in theory and composing/songwriting. I like to encourage students to get on a practicing schedule especially for younger students as it helps them get more interested in the instrument. I like to start with modern pop/rock styles to get the student interested in the instrument then mix in Jazz so we can talk about more complex theory and also mix in a little classical so we can talk about technique and form. You will learn to understand your own vocal mechanism and how it resonates, as well as how breath support works, and their effects on the singing voice.
