I am a native of Russia. In 2001 I moved to the United States. In 2005 I became a US citizen. I studied music for seven years to earn my Bachelor of Arts degree in vocals and piano. I studied six more years in conservatory to obtain my Masters degrees in music performance and education. I love to teach and to see my students progress in their musical studies. I enjoy communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. Read More

My teaching experience began when I was in grad school, where I taught a few students at a local high school. Since moving to the KC area eight years ago, I have been consistently teaching and gradually building my private studio, which now has over 20 students! I love working with young singers (specifically grades 8-12) and helping them find the potential in their voices. I have encountered the full range of ability levels, from very experienced (had lessons before, sung multiple solos in school choir, had lead roles in musicals, etc.) to complete novice (no lessons, no choir experience). My overall approach to lessons is the same, regardless of ability level: consistent improvement from week to week using vocal exercises, songs, and an exploration of breath and the physicality of singing. Dr. Pittman traces his vocal lineage all the way back to the father of Bel Canto sinigng, Francesco Lamperti, and I am very fortunate to have learned from this excellent singer. Dr. Pittman instructed me in a very organic manner that focused on the position of different muscles and bones that are involved in the anatomy of singing. As such, my students will sometimes receive lessons on anatomical positions while singing. Read More

When I really take a deep look at what is happening when I teach, I realize that in the end the student is teaching him/herself. I'm merely responding to a musical moment -- with a set of ears that I trust, and that happen to be attached to my body -- in a way that makes sense to the vast musical experience I have. "How can this be more beautiful?" "How can this be more secure?" "How can I say a thing to the student that clicks in her/his mind, such that they figure out for themselves how to make this more beautiful/secure/free/awesome/spine-tingling. Read More

Most of my music career has focused on accompaniment and performance - but teaching is my favorite, because it gives me the opportunity to help another succeed. Music is at the core of each of us, and it's so crucial to find success in developing that part of us. I focus on student success, no matter what that looks like. My students will be encouraged to enter competitions, recitals, and composition. Read More

From there we move on: Beginner students will work on basic fundamentals. Advanced students will work on the chosen piano piece. Afterwards will discuss what next lesson's goal will be. In order for students to achieve their goals, both long-term and short-term, it is expected of them to practice at least 30 minutes a day. For beginner students who are children, I would like them to work up to 30 minutes. I would suggest starting with 10 - 15 minutes of practice time everyday. Read More

The method book I begin younger students on is Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber. There are 5 Level books to complete. We use the lesson book, as well as the technique book. I also supplement with solo repertoire and various materials. For the older beginner, I use Alfred's Basic Adult All-In-One Course, as well as supplemental solo repertoire. Music theory is essential in my studio, and I use various learning tools to teach theory. iPad apps, worksheets, games and manipulatives are a few examples. Read More
