My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 5 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for singing/the instrument. I've also found that a combination of technical exercises and songs that students love can go a long way in helping students enjoy singing/piano/flute and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. For all my students I design a fun atmosphere where they feel comfortable, stimulated and encouraged to absorb musical knowledge. Depending on their musical backgrounds and their ability I discuss with my students and their parents(depending on student's age) what is their primary goal to achieve during the lesson, what style they want to concentrate on. When we get to know each other I assign my student with Vaccai classical tune (practices vocal technique) and two songs in style preferred, when a student learns and masters these we move on, with more difficult tunes each time. I think it's important to be kind but firm. It helps to create clear expectations that allow for a student to be most successful. With private lessons, it is important to tailor the sessions for each student individually. Some students require to a "push" while others might want a more relaxed lesson. Together with students we can set goals and a progress map. It is also important to always encourage students in their learning, regardless of what their pace is. Read More

I am a big believer in the breath. For a beginner I do a lot of exercises with breath connection to encourage healthy, connected singing. I like the idea that the voice dances on the breath and is buoyed and protected by that technique. I am also a very physical teacher, encouraging students to use their whole body in the act of singing. The voice is carried by the whole body and not just the muscles that are the vocal chords.
