For vocalists interested in jazz, I'll use The Real Vocal Book for material, and to teach out of, I'll use my beginner piano and guitar books for sight reading, and teach my own techniques from memory. My goal is for all of my students to feel relaxed and free in their lessons. Singers use a lot of different emotions and they need to feel very much at home with their teacher in order to explore those moods. I teach taking into account the the student's age level and ability, and I'm very sensitive to time-constraints that most students have during their week. I also do audition prep for students preparing for performing arts schools. For my adult students, I encourage them to enter competitions and audition for bands. In high school, I first started working with kids through Special Olympics, mission trips, and church. As an educator, I am soft-spoken, patient, and warm, creating an understanding environment. My expectations of my students, though high, are extremely clear. It is up to the educator to modify for every student. I believes that the importance of music in the schools allows students to connect with each art and more importantly, themselves, foster responsibility, and discover a potential lifelong joy in music making. Other operatic role experience of mine includes ensemble member and Adele (cover) in Die Fledermaus, Jenny Slade in Roman Fever, and Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflte at Carnegie Mellon. I have also performed as a soloist with the Carnegie Mellon University choir and the CMU Singers chamber group. This past December I was the soprano soloist in the Faur Requiem with the Carnegie Mellon University choir. In addition, I have attended the Redwoods Opera Workshop, the Savannah Voice Experience Festival, and the International Vocal Arts Institute where I performed the role of Le Converse in Suor Angelica and was a soloist on several concert programs.
