My lesson plans are devised around each student's individual goals. Do you have a favorite musician that you want to sound like? Is there an ensemble that you are dying to play in? Through a combination of effective methods and specific structuring to your needs, I can help you achieve those goals! For double bass, I find F. Simandl's "New Method for the Double Bass" and "30 Etudes for the String Bass" to be extremely useful. Read More

I have been teaching music for 15 years, during this time I have been able to understand the diversity of paste in which we all learn. My purpose is to inspired and challenge my students so that they can find their own voice and style, during my classes we find out what the best way to achieve our goals is by working hard, having fun and creating a musical relationship. My lessons are an interaction between myself and the student where I point out their strengths and weaknesses, an environment of love and patience where music serves us as the medium for growth. The lesson starts with Awareness Through Movement (ATM) applying the Feldenkrais Method to get the student in a state where the mind-body learns new possibilitites of movement, making the body feel more comfortable and expanded. It is a first "tuning" before working directly with the sounding voice. Breathing excercises and vocal technique are to continue. When the student is warmed up, we work in the learning and development of a specific song and/or vocal improvisation. Read More

For basic piano, I start students with the Piano Adventure Primer level lesson book, which can easily be ordered online or found in your closest music store. If the student has little experience in music literacy, this is a great place to start and we can further explore where their interest in music lies. For singers, we will take the music they like to sing or whatever repertoire they are working on in a school or amateur ensemble and ensure free and healthy singing. Read More

My passion for singing dates back to when I was a child, singing in choirs and performing in churches. In 2011, I graduated from the Greatbach School of Music at Houghton College, earning a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance with honors. I have been blessed to perform in several regional theatre productions, as well as two off-Broadway shows. I have brought my love of coaching and teaching to these productions. I was the vocal captain at La Comedia Dinner Theatre in Ohio, and the music director for an off-Broadway production. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Thank you for taking the time to read this I look forward to working with you. Read More

In the past, I have taught a couple of students who were beginners. One student was not American, and I had to teach her proper English pronunciation, while teaching her vocal technique. She was a hard worker, and came prepared the next week. Therefore, I could work at a faster level with her, then could I with another student who was progressing more slowly. If I can make a difference by teaching, in vocal technique, but also in the love of music, having fun, and finding and tapping into the creative part of my students, then I did my job. Read More
