I have had many opportunities to perform locally and nationally including singing the National Anthem for the Paradise Bowl in 2002 making my first television debut. Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. I specialize in the performance and instruction of classical, operatic music, and Kindermusik, but also teach the genres of jazz, spiritual, cultural/ethnic music, and childrens music. Mymusical expertise encompasses performance, vocal technique, musical analysis, theory, and principle applications of classical music. After graduation, I began teaching and performing for organizations and schools throughout Austin. I was born and raised in Houston, TX and I received a Bachelor's degree in music education from The University of Texas at San Antonio and an M.M. in voice performance from Indiana University. During my time in San Antonio, I was a semi-finalist and finalist at NATS competitions. I haven't had much teaching experience, but I have worked with teenagers throughout this last year while getting my Associates of Arts degree over at Lone Star Community College. My high school choir director asked me if I would like to start helping out high school students with providing voice lessons, and of course, I said yes. I helped out three seniors in high school this last semester, and two out of the three of them are actually heading to Texas colleges to pursue a career in music. Read More

There are some not-so-fun things about learning music (practice schedules and repetition) but there are plenty of resources out there to help students stay interested and motivated.
