My public performances began in nursing homes, local festivals and recitals. I also began studying with the famous composer, arranger, Russell Faith at Newtown School of Music. I took his advice to work under the Jarred Talent agency of N.Y. as did a fellow student, Andrea McArdle, who played the lead role in the Broadway musical Annie. I believe that each student having come from their own background requires a method tailored to their own needs. Younger students may require basics, but if theyve played an instrument and have a strong understanding of the fundamentals and building blocks of music, they can be miles ahead of the curve. I have been taking voice lessons myself since the age of 15 and have been teaching since 17 when I was involved in a unique experience being mentored by my middle and high school choir directors as I knew I would be going on in Music Education as a college student. After graduating from my Bachelors program I began teaching both private voice and elementary-high school vocal and general music. Once I feel the student has a solid understanding of these fundamentals, I move onto introducing them to repertoire that I think would help in putting these newly learned fundamentals into use as well as allowing them to expand their knowledge on other important factors of singing such as diction, pronunciation, phrasing, keeping a legato line, and possibly language skills depending on the piece. Over time I may even have them bring in pieces they may be interested in and work with them on understanding how they can incorporate these fundamentals and newly learned skills into the music that they love.
