Michael Aaron Piano Courses for children and adults had usually proven a good start for piano lessons. Sometimes, a student will need something other than a method book: I will then personally design a program for them based on the way in which they assimilate information and translate that into musical understanding and technique. It is normally a combination of internet information and my personal compositions. For voice, I use no specific published method course. Read More

Throughout the course of my collegiate career, the main method/approach to singing that I have been taught and teach to my own students as well, is that of relying on proper air/breath support to do the "heavy lifting" in singing- NOT putting any stress or tension on your vocal chords! Therefore, my methods/practices consist largely of proper breathing exercises during warmups, but also selecting solo repertoire that focuses on building proper and healthy bridges between your chest/head voice, as to create a smoother, less-noticeable transition that also sustains your voice throughout the course of your singing career. I found myself teaching at a very young age, being hired as the accompanist for the Dominican High School Summer Theatre Camp. These campers ranged in age from 5-14. I have accompanied for the past six summers, and I eventually held the title of Lead Music Teacher. At school in Chicago, I did some vocal coaching of my peers. I have experience in teaching and coaching both musical theatre repertoire and classical repertoire. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Flute Piccolo

I have taught multiple beginning flute and voice students throughout my college career, as well as assisting the music students at Rolling Hills Elementary School in Mukwonago with their head start program. I wish to continue on into graduate school for Music Therapy, and for this reason, I also have experience working with both adolescence and adults that have developmental disabilities. I believe that music can be enjoyed by people of all different ages and experience levels, and I hope to work with students like these that are eager to learn. Read More

My methods depend on the student's age, what they may have already begun in lessons with another teacher, and I also take into consideration the assessment of their learning style-choosing a method that works best for their needs. Basically you could say that I have no 'one' method. I have as many methods as I have students because every single student deserves for me to take the time to get to know them and to find out what educational practices will fit best with their learning style and personality. Instruments: Piano Voice

I teach vocal students from ages 6-adult. We work on breathing techniques, music theory, interpretation, and style. I like students to sing their favorite styles. I also expose them to songs that I feel would be appropriate for their growth. We also work on performance and auditions! I like to incorporate a lot of music theory and note reading into my teaching as well. Everyone is at a different level so I cater lessons to fit the needs of each student. Read More

Instruments: Voice

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I like almost all kinds of music, but I was born and raised on musical theatre and to this day that is what I'm most passionate about.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
For 30 min: 10 min just to warm up. Nothing too loud, too high/low, or too strenuous. It can progressively get harder, but let yourself ease into this very physically demanding act. 10 min functional exercises - we work on finding the best exercises for you 10min of song work - if you do the warm up and functional part right, your voice should be in its best shape to sing songs

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
for voice, I follow the principles of Somatic Voicework (sm). I use this philosophy because it's tangible. A lot of singing teachers use metaphors that might have worked for them but really mean nothing to most students. My methodology is based in vocal function, and every exercise is crafted with knowledge of the physiology of the body and getting the voice optimized to its peak performance.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being on stage with the Houston Chamber Choir as we won a Grammy award was one of the coolest moments of my life! Being in that group was really special and taught me what it takes to make music at the highest level. Our follow up recording Circlesong will always hold a special place in my heart (Go check it out on Spotify!).

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Committing to what it takes from the whole body. Singing isn't just about the throat - to be a truly great singer you have to take care of yourself. getting enough to eat, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, not abusing your voice in loud settings, and dedicating the time to physical practice all take some sacrifice in order to fully maximize the voice. But it is SO rewarding whenever you have full control over the gift inside of your mouth!

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
My mom tells me I've been singing since I was 18 months old, so I would say it chose me more than I chose it! I love to sing because it's so personal and so visceral - it's the only instrument where everyone can truly play it!

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I've had a lot of teachers that inspire me! What I took away from them is how much they care about their students. The voice teacher-student relationship is a really special one, and I try to honor those who take care of me by taking care of my students.

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Target your practice instead of just going through things again and again. It's more efficient to focus on practicing just the parts you need to improve on before putting it in context than it is to run through the motions over and over again and hope it gets better. That's a surefire way to wear yourself out without improving!

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If they can open a Zoom call/YouTube video by themselves and don't have trouble focusing, they are ready to start lessons.

When will I start to see results?
It depends on how much you (or your child) practices outside of lessons. I typically recommend practicing at least 3 days/week to start, but the more often you practice the more quickly you can expect results. For most people, there is usually a some improvement within 4-6 hrs of lessons, but the process of learning the fundamentals of singing usually takes around 2 years, and that can vary depending on your individual situation.

Heart of Gold Chords Arranged for Beginning Guitar (Neil Young)

...I = Index M = Middle A = Ring   I find that using a pick to strum the chords can be a little too harsh sounding for the mood of this tune. For that reason, I suggest using your fingers to pluck and strum the chords. Let’s begin by assigning the right-hand fingers to certain strings: The Thumb (P) plays the bass note: 6th string for Em and G 5th string for C 4th string for D The Index (I) is assigned to the 4th string. The Middle (M) is assigned to the 3rd string. The Ring (A) is assigned ... Read More

Christmas Songs for Guitar: Easy Songs to Learn for the Holidays

...song was adapted from a story in a coloring book developed by department store giant Montgomery Ward. May, who was assigned the task of writing the coloring books story, apparently struggled while creating the story because his wife was suffering from cancer, and he couldn’t afford to keep up with medical bills. May’s daughter loved the reindeer she’d see at the local zoo, and this certainly helped give him the idea for Rudolph. One morning, he looked out into the fog-covered lake outside his Michigan home when the idea for the story came to him. As he worked on the story, his wife’s ... Read More
