Secondly, I give them individual exercises and short music excerpts that they enjoy and we can learn together. It is important to slowly introduce music that is a little more challenging and that will keep them engaged and knowing of their improvements. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with simple chords and teach them a few fun songs. If the student is interested in learning how to read music, I will use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance if they are interested in performing live. For adults, I like to find out what they are most interested in, whether it is a specific genre, (jazz/classical) or if they are more interested in learning songs (classic rock/pop/etc.) or songwriting. He then introduced me to bass-baritone Franco Bertacci. He studied with famous operatic singers such as Franco Corelli and Thomas LoMonaco. From there, he began to train singers, eventually teaching me. I began to study his technique, as well as continue my study in college. I enrolled in Westminster Choir College in 2012 and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music Degree.
