Melissa began singing in a church choir at the age of four and has been "hooked" ever since. After years of performing in various choirs and taking lessons herself, she went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in vocal performance at Illinois Wesleyan University and her Master's at Illinois State University. Meanwhile, Melissa was also studying piano from childhood through college. Now in her 21st year of playing, Melissa loves to teach beginner and intermediate pianists in addition to youngsingers. My studio of aspiring musicians of all ages strives for the motto I came up with as an alternative to the popular, yet technically impossible and anxiety-inducing Practice Makes Perfect. I am a dedicated professional singer in the DC Metro area, and I operate Hannahs Music Studio as a way to share what I have learned through my many years of music studies and performances. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from George Mason University with a Master in Vocal Pedagogy and Bachelor of Music degree in piano and voice. I have the Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance at The Royal Conservatoire of Monaco. I was the Semi-Finalist of NATS, singing fluently in Italian, German, French, Latin and Korean. Performing all over the Northern Virginia and several states has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play both at the Performing Arts Concert Hall in Virginia, as well as music teacher as several performances as the principle director/pianist with Va Youth Orchestra. I put together a structured plan specifically for that student, so we can work toward achieving those goals. Lessons are often structured in 2 parts: 1) actual singing and song work, 2) exercises.
