Ensuring my students leave each lesson refreshed, revitalized, and energized is essential for me as an instructor. If the student is not fulfilled and having a great time, then I am not succeeding as an instructor. Likewise, creating realistic goals for each lesson as well as long-term goals is paramount to the success, continued growth, and progress of the students. Music lessons are a collaboration between the student and myself. Read More

My love of teaching became stronger than ever after I recovered from a vocal disorder that changed my life. Everything I learned from that experience encouraged me to spread awarness of vocal health. I love teaching people new things especially those interested in music. Sharing what I know from life experiences and music therapy hands on observations is not only rewarding but continues to help me to grow. As for teaching experience, I have given lessons to non-music majors while in school and also taught music while studying abroad in Jamaica.. Read More

Students need to enjoy and connect with the music they are singing, and I work with my students to find music they enjoy that also meets their developmental goals. I also encourage my students to perform in recitals and competitions, if sharing their voice is part of their personal and/or professional goals. Finally, knowing how busy people are these days, I work with my students to find creative ways of fitting in their practice and I teach them HOW to practice, since consistent, quality practice is critical to achieving their goals. Music is deeply personal; one must get to know each student's own personality, interests, and connections to music. Early on (both in the teaching relationship and in each lesson) one must assess where the student is, as to technical and musical growth, and with the music at hand. Then one finds, models, explains and encourages the next steps the student can achieve. Clear guidance and dialogue about what will happen outside the studio (listening, practice, rehearsal, performance) helps turn the weekly cycle of lessons into an upward spiral of progress, achievement, and reward. I have a routine that I use for the lesson time--breath exercises followed by the vocal warm up and then working on a piece. During that process I always encourage an open dialogue between myself and every student. I want to student to feel as comfortable as possible and always have the option to ask questions and take part in their development as a singer. My goal is to provide a nurturing and inspirational environment for every singer, despite that individual's level of singing or experience. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music, pursue their dreams and make them come true! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. Because we all have different begging points. We will set the goals and achieve them together! Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Singing is a beautiful and interesting process. Read More

I began teaching during my undergraduate studies, initially starting out as a double major in performance and education. In a short time, I realized how deeply I loved working one on one with students, which led me to pursue performance full time and teach in my private studio. Once I moved to California, I began expanding my teaching to music schools (Yamaha) and have continued to work with students in a diverse array of settings (private studio, music schools, high schools, university).
