Instruments: Voice
I work from a whole-body mindfulness perspective on voice. We use our whole body to create and emit sound, not just our lungs and throat. When we work from a whole-body perspective, we are more grounded, we are better able to identify pitch and stay on pitch, our breath flows better, and the act of singing becomes enjoyable and easy. We start from identifying the student's comfortable pitches and range, and then we expand upon what is currently comfortable for a greater range. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
Since my teaching philosophy is that every piano lesson should be fun, I tailor each lesson according to the student's age and interests. For young beginners, I choose method books that contain fun songs. I also teach music theory through story telling. For older students, I tailor each lesson according to their interests. However, I encourage them to learn Classical music, so that students develop good musicality. My goal is that all my students enjoy music for the rest of their lives. Read More

I have found that this helps the student to progress more quickly and gain a true love of music. I also like to have my students work on a wide variety of repertoire, even if they would like to specialize in only one field. Coming from a liberal arts college,I find that having a specialty while also being well versed in other fields as well is important to a successful music study. Read More

I have a great and sincere love of all things music. I have devoted my life to private studio teaching for over 10 years. I had the opportunity to study voice and opera at the San Francisco Conservatory and The Boston Conservatory. After a number of years as a professional singer, I returned to school to complete my degree. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Performance from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, Ca. Read More

Teaching people what they want to know and feeding their enthusiasm has been the best thing about teaching for me. Understanding what a student already knows, seeing where there may be gaps to fill and what new material they are ready for makes it a exciting experience for both the student and me. Using material that interests them and moving ahead in a way that encourages and rewards their effort gives them a true sense of accomplishment and heightens their enjoyment of the lessons and their own improved ability. No musician is complete without an understanding of the piano; my own experience began at an early age, and I encourage any student to begin studying piano as soon as possible! I have studied with amazing pedagogues and scholars alike, and carry their teaching with me where ever I go. Although the bulk of my professional resume is made up with operatic experience, my roots lie in choral music, jazz, and musical theater. Read More

I am very encouraging and patient as a teacher, i understand how learning is when your trying to get over the hurdles. My compassion allows me to put myself in the students shoes, which makes me a better teacher. I like to encourage the student to listen to artists and incorporate musical philosophy to inspire the student to play and achieve and experiment. I think being curious is a musician's best friend, it creates the drive to want to learn more. Read More
